Story of The Stones: Split Rocks

On Easter Sunday, I continued our Easter Sermon Series called “Story of The Stones”. I have loved the series and am almost sorry that it is ending this week. If you are interested in seeing any of our recent messages you can click here to watch them.

On Sunday I spoke and used the passage of Jesus’ death from Matthew 27…

Matthew 27:50–52 (NIV)

And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split  and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.

The part that caught my eye and made me think was where it says “The Rocks split”. There is so much in these verses but that rocks splitting fascinated me. I did some research and saw someone write about how there are ugly stones but if you split them down the middle there is beauty inside…. I mentioned that in my message and one of my young men from my church dropped off a special gift to me today. The young man’s name is Noah. Noah is a youtuber who has a channel called Mobile Outdoor. Noah dropped off a rock (geode) as a gift to me. I took the rock and it looked like a normal rock until it split down the middle and revealed a beautiful inside of crystals. Something that started out as a simple and ugly rock actually had beautiful creation on the inside.

When we follow Jesus, God reveals the beautiful life He intended for us. In the death of Jesus something Beautiful was happening! It may have been horrific, Brutal and unbelievable what they did to Jesus but God had a better plan! And it was beautiful!

It gives us hope that even through the ugly, God has beauty inside ready to be cracked open and revealed!
